What to Wear in Early Autumn: Three Organic Silk Looks for the Season in Between

September has its own way of changing how we get dressed.

The days can still feel like summer, but mornings are cooler, evenings arrive a little earlier, and suddenly we start reaching for layers again. It is not quite time for a winter wardrobe — and that is exactly what makes this moment of the year interesting.

For us, early autumn is less about changing everything and more about styling familiar pieces differently. Adding texture, introducing deeper shades, or simply layering the organic silk pieces we have been wearing all summer.

Three looks for the season in between.

Three ways into early autumn: keeping black silk minimal, layering tonal Almond with leather, and bringing deeper Green into relaxed tailoring.

01. Black, Kept Simple: How to Style a Silk Dress for Early Autumn

Early autumn styling collage featuring HERTH Alma black organic silk maxi dress with neutral pumps, snakeskin clutch and silver cuffs.

There is very little a long black dress needs.

For early autumn, we would wear the Alma Maxi Dress in Black with soft neutral pumps, a snakeskin clutch and sculptural silver cuffs.

The accessories bring contrast, but the silhouette remains clean and uncomplicated. A look that works just as easily for dinner as it does for an afternoon in the city.

02. Almond with an edge: Tonal silk dressing for Early Autumn

Early autumn styling collage featuring HERTH Andie top and Nilde maxi skirt in Almond organic silk with a black leather jacket, burgundy bag and nude pumps.

There is something effortless about wearing one shade from head to toe.

The Andie Long Sleeve Top and Nilde Maxi Skirt, both in Almond, create a soft tonal base. A black leather jacket changes the mood immediately, while a burgundy bag, nude pumps and dark sunglasses bring the look into autumn without making it feel heavy.

It is the kind of combination we like most at this time of year: light enough for September, layered enough for what comes next.

03. Softer Tailoring: How to Style Silk Trousers for Early Autumn

Early autumn styling collage featuring HERTH Cora Top in Ivory, Zeno green organic silk trousers and Uma black blazer with black flats and accessories.

Not all tailoring needs to feel formal.

Here, the Cora Top is paired with the Zeno Trousers in Green and the Uma Blazer in Black. Flat shoes keep the proportions relaxed, while a small black bag and a classic watch finish the look.

The deep green adds just enough colour for the new season, while the silk keeps everything fluid and easy to wear.

A combination that moves easily from workdays to weekends and dinner plans.

Dressing for what comes next

The best part of September may be that there are no real rules yet.

Bare ankles can still work with a jacket. A summer top can sit beneath a blazer. A silk dress needs little more than a different shoe or bag to feel ready for autumn.

Rather than packing one season away and beginning another, we prefer the space in between — and a wardrobe that can move through it with us.
